What to Expect During Your Regular Visit
Dental Hygiene
It’s important to practice good oral hygiene habits to maintain healthy teeth and gums. This means brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing regularly, according to the American Dental Association (ADA).
It’s also important to schedule dental check-ups and professional cleanings every six months, or twice a year. This will eliminate debris from hard-to-reach places between your teeth and help prevent further oral health problems, like tooth decay and gum disease.
Teeth Cleanings and Exams
Smile makeovers begin with regular dental visits and exams. During your routine check-up, we’ll complete a comprehensive dental exam of your teeth and gums to look for signs of cavities, gum disease, and more.
One of our hygienists will also provide you with a detailed teeth cleaning to eliminate any debris, plaque, or tartar build-up. With regular care from our Cupertino general dentists, we can help prevent some of the issues that might later threaten your smile’s appearance.
Oral Cancer Screening
At Cupertino Dental and Facial Esthetics, we perform an oral cancer screening during each routine dental visit. Screenings are a critical precautionary measure taken to detect any signs of cancer in its early stages. This allows us to identify symptoms early on for a better survival rate.
During an oral cancer screening, we’ll examine your face, neck, lips, oral cavity, and the inside of your nose to determine if there are any areas of concern. If we find a potential issue, we can collect a sample and send it to a laboratory for testing.
How We Can Protect Your Oral Health
Periodontal Therapy
When plaque hardens, it turns into tartar⎼which is nearly impossible to remove without a professional cleaning. As tartar accumulates, it harbors bacteria that attack the soft tissue around the gums and results in periodontal (gum) disease.
Gum disease is common, but if left untreated, it can be incredibly harmful to your teeth and result in severe oral health problems. Luckily, our Cupertino dentists can easily treat gum disease and protect your smile with periodontal therapy.
TMJ/TMD Treatment
Does your jaw cause persistent pain, or pop or click when you chew? This could be a sign of a more serious jaw problem with your temporomandibular joints, or TMJ.
TMJ disorders (TMD) affect the opening and closing of your jaw, often resulting in jaw pain and headaches similar to migraines. Our Cupertino dentists will work with you to find the source of your TMD and create a customized treatment plan that works for you. Learn more.
Night Guards
Night guards are often recommended for patients suffering from bruxism, or excessive grinding and clenching of the teeth while sleeping. They’re used to protect teeth from further damage and reduce the risk of chipped/worn down teeth, irritated gums, and jaw pain.
We’ll take impressions of your entire mouth to ensure your customized night guard fits comfortably and precisely over your teeth. Made of durable material, night guards are designed to last up to 10 years and can provide a long-term solution for your bruxism.
